Clementine

2022 Clementine Pinot Gris

CLEMENTINE

A little sassy, full of vitality and a touch of boldness, each of the wines in the Clementine range has much in common with their namesake, the winemaker's adorable daughter, Clementine ‘Minnie’ Logan.

Fermenting whites on their skins and reds as whole intact bunches results in distinctive colours, delicious textures and all kinds of crunchy, salty, tangy, yummy fresh flavours with a distinctive twist. Lots of fun.

TASTING NOTES

We love when the Clementine Pinot Gris comes back from the bottling line as it’s a great reminder that longer, warmer days are imminent. This wine is pure joy, it burns with the amber hues of a Mudgee sunset and epitomises la dolce vita. This vibrant wine stands up well to bolder dishes with flavours of the Ottoman Empire, e.g., Greek octopus, Moroccan chickpeas. Also great with a roast and caramelised root veg – try going for celeriac, fennel or Jerusalem artichoke.

The 2022 Clementine Pinot Gris – more complex and more character than the 21 but similarly smooth. 70% Orange / 30% Mudgee pinot gris fermented on skins by wild yeast. Stayed on skins for about 2 weeks. Pushing the boundary on extraction gives this wine a heavier start. Setting a portion (30%) to rest in old oak for 2 months and allowing malolactic fermentation helps to soften the mid palate and gives the type of silky mouthfeel not usually found in gris, but that invokes giddiness in the pinot noir drinker. You have been warned!

Enjoy pretty aromas of pear, red apple, fennel, cherry and rose with flavours of pear, Meyer lemon and cranberry. Feels like pinot noir, tastes like a Pinot gris with a splash of noir.
