2021 Weemala Pinot Gris

The Weemala range is a little bit quirky and has attracted a loyal following for its restrained, elegant and excellent value for money wines. Weemala is both an Aboriginal word for ‘good view’ and the name of the Logan vineyard in Mudgee. The little devils on the labels represent the local Mudgee birds that have a very good view of the Logan vines.

All of the wines in the Weemala series are normally comprised of fruit grown in Mudgee and Orange – like all Logan wines – they are supple, fruit-driven and extremely drinkable. The perfect wines for those who enjoy something just a little bit different.

The 2021 growing season was a tough one in the NSW Central Ranges, although overall quality was high. Yields in the Orange region were pitifully low, about 10-15% of an average year due to the hangover from the 2018-2020 drought, snow in November and some large rain events late in the growing season which required us to remove and mould or fungus affected grapes. Yields in Mudgee were healthier but still a little down on average. Temperatures were cooler than average leading to slow, steady ripening, however the sunshine throughout produced clearly varietal wines, generally with lower alcohol levels.

The 2021 Weemala Pinot Gris is pale gold with aromas of jasmine, pear and nougat flavours of white nectarine, zesty lime and a very subtle hint of green apple before a smooth, soft finish.
